Los Angeles native Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) makes due by searching and frivolous robbery. He lurches into another vocation as a cameraman and outfitted with a camcorder and police scanner starts nighttime invasions over the city looking for stunning and terrible law violations. When he gets the attention of a shopworn news executive (Rene Russo) who respects the opportunity to raise her station's evaluations, Louis goes to progressively more noteworthy lengths to catch the "cash shot."
